ANGEL ON A METAL ROD

This doll-like angel comes from the early part of the 20th century. It used to be part of a tableau of “Agony in the Garden” which was in procession in Navotas. The eyes are cast downward on the Christ, the left hand used to hold a chalice and the right hand points to heaven. The angel evokes piety and solace, since the figure was supposed to support the suffering Christ. The angel is in a metal rod since the angel has to be in a higher plane than the praying Christ in the tableau of “Agony in the Garden”.
