WELCOME REMARKS ON THE OCCASION OF THE GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING OF BOOK
EXPORTERS ASSOCIATION OF THE PHILIPPINES (BEAP)
March 8, 2000
To my colleagues at the BEAP, good afternoon and congratulations.
We would like to give cognizance to the leadership that within only a span of nine (9) months from the issuance of a certificate of incorporation through constant monthly meetings, possible breakthroughs have been made in the international market. It is exemplified through your intended participation at the Singapore Book Fair and another in the United States of America.
On our part, subject to budgetary constraint and the kind approval of the Governing Board, we shall endeavor to be of assistance until the desired viability shall be attained.
This is premised on Implementing Policy No. 2.2 of the National Book Policy (NBP) which states that, “Private publishers shall be encouraged and given assistance to participate in international book fairs so that they may be induced to produce globally competitive publications” and Implementing Policy No. 4.6 of the NBP which states that, “Exportation of books shall be given proper support and incentives”.
We are hopeful that your association shall play a pivotal role in enhancing the dignity of our country in the family of nations through quality publications.
