Greeting to everyone.
It was a beautiful video presentation and I am truly overwhelmed to be given that accolade and honor.
Thus, even though we are still at the middle of the program I would take this opportune time to express my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to everyone present tonight. Your presence alone including those who were once with us like Chino, Linda, Elvie, Krisvi and Shiela is reflective of your continuing contribution and prayer for Rex to survive and to transcend all challenges with the help of Divine Providence during the past 70 years and beyond.
With Rex reaching 70 and your humble representation reaching 75 come March 13, 2020 it is an honor and privilege to be celebrating the two-fold celebrations which would not have been realized without your indispensable support and guided by the core values laid down by the founders Mr. and Mrs. Juanito Fontelera which were nurtured by the second generation and given sophistication by the third generation.
On behalf of the Buhain and Fontelera families I wish to thank each and everyone for the hardwork you have contributed for the continuance of the company. We maybe one of the oldest in tandem with the other publishers like Abiva, Central, Phoenix, Vibal and we are proud to announce that in terms of the numbers of publication we possess the most number in view of the aspiration of founder Juanito Fontelera to give opportunity to any would-be author to cause the publication and printing of his intellectual inputs which is now being continued to be given realization by the present leadership with strict parameters to be complied with to ensure quality.
Rex, through your humble representation has also been contributory in seeking advocacy through the passage of the Book Publishing Development Act or RA 8047 and has continued to be supportive to fight for the ideals of the publishing and printing industry.
Rex through your humble representation is now the President of PPTF which in turn is the President/Chairman of the Printing Industry Board Foundation, Inc. (PIBFI) which is the umbrella organization representative of the private sector printing and publishing which is in partnership with government (TESDA) to uplift the printing and publishing industry.
I am proud to announce that come March 10, 2020 we are coming up with the third (3rd) coffee table book which is entitled “The Survival of Books, Book Stores and Other Display Areas under Philippine Setting” co-authored with the late Lolit Guilas. The first two (2) are The History of Printing in the Philippines and The History of Publishing in the Philippines.
Let us congratulate the 3Gs under the leadership of the CEO Don Buhain with COO Sunday Fontelera, Chief Marketing Officer Jeanne Fontelera and last but not the least the Chief External Affairs Officer Danda Crimelda Buhain for reaching out to greater heights for perpetuating the ideals and core values of Rex Book Store and the Buhain and Fontelera families as manifested by the many infrastructures Rex is possessing at the present moment – modesty aside.
Whatever success that is being enjoyed is dependent on the harmony and the mutual help of the members of the family characterized at all times by humility and hard work.
Thank you to my grandchildren for serenading me. Thank you to the organizer of this event. Thank you for dressing up well to give respect to where we have reached in tandem with that of our writers to bring help to our students and our country during the preceding 70 years.
Thank you to the awardees for truly they deserve to be given such recognitions for their noteworthy contributions. Thank you to the non-awardees for their support.
We still have few more awards to give and special performances to warm our hearts. Let us continue enjoying this night. Good evening and all the best. Let us seek Divine Guidance and Protection as we confront the catastrophic plague and other challenges besetting us.
